Rift Valley – Lake Naivasha

The Rift Valley is one of Africa’s grandiose geological achievements. The geological struggle that nearly split Africa in two created the Rift Valley: bubbling salt lakes follow one another, the spectacular landscapes are joined by wildlife: hippos, flamingos, giraffes and more.

The Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake, is the highest of the Rift Valley lakes (1884 masl). At its shores large, snorting hippos play in the shallow water and at sunset come out to graze the grass. Lake Naivasha is home to one of Kenya’s resident foreign communities, and it seems that on weekends half of Nairobi moves here. It has a tourist resort atmosphere in high season
