To know about the “Smokies”

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the second most visited National Park of the USA after the Yosemite in California. It offers different activities, which is good to know about.

The most popular are probably hiking, horse riding and the simple enjoying of the view.

There are hiking trails for every wish and level. We went up to the Clingmans Dome. It is, yes, a steep trail of 0.5 miles/0.805 kilometers (round trip), but it’s paved and was hiked without problem from the tiny legs of our 2 years old daughter. Kate @Clingmans Dome

Traveling in the “Smokies” you find plenty of look out points, which are great for the view and some pictures to take home with you.The National Park offers as well many horse riding trails and camping amenities for horse and rider. Stefi (beginner level in terms of horse-riding) took a guided ride of 2.5 hours, where she absolutely enjoyed the peace and quiet in the nature. Cost: $75.Stefi on Rauch at the start of her horse riding tour

For off-road lovers, the park does offer some unpaved roads on the most remote parts of the park. These tracks are also good to escape the tourist jam found on the principal routes and park attractions.

To conclude, the campgrounds within the Park don’t offer any services unless restrooms, but they are very well maintained and are always patrolled by park rangers. Cost per night, tent place: $20.
